INTELLIGENCER JOURNAL / SUNDAY NEWS

Editorial “Investment returns: A foundation for all” opines:

“For the past six decades, it has been the people of Lancaster County who have profited from the investments made by the John Frederick and James Hale Steinman Foundations.”

“Last week, the two foundations merged to become the largest single charitable foundation in Lancaster County, and the second largest in Central Pennsylvania. Since their inception in 1951, they have contributed roughly $79 million to the arts, health care, community and educational organizations in Lancaster County, including nearly $3 million in 2013.”

WATCHDOG: We stand second to no one in respect for the work of the Steinman family and its foundations over past decades.

However, it is apparent from articles in the weekday, repeated in the Sunday paper, and now in the form of a Tuesday editorial that the Lancaster Newspapers, Inc. (LNP) is engaged in an effort to improve its local image by trotting out the worthy works of its predecessors.

Granted the LNP has reasons to try to rectify an image that was soiled over a decade of disgraceful journalism in all matters pertaining to the Convention Center Project.

The real steps LNP needs to take are to publicly stand up to Dale High, its partner in Penn Square Partners, by adovocating for accepting the Martin Plan without reservations and to print an editorial ‘mea culpa’ in which it apologizes to past commissioners and the public for its inaccurate, defamatory, and self-serving reporting during its Convention Center ‘dark age’.

  1. Well stated…..however, don’t hold your breath for it to ever happen.

My guess is that LNP ownership, management and editors have the single focus of influencing/controlling Lancaster City and County for LNP’s economic benefit.

Unless, of course, they rediscover their moral compass and once again become a news source of integrity and ethics.
