Facebook Updates Find Few Fans on Capitol Hill

Facebook may be the world’s most popular social network, but recent changes to the website’s privacy settings have members of the U.S. Senate commenting “Dislike.”

In an open letter addressed to Facebook’s 25-year-old founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, and published by Politico this morning, Democratic Sens. Charles Schumer, Michael Bennet, Mark Begich and Al Franken raised major concerns about Facebook on behalf of “users who want to maintain control over their information.”

The letter follows up on points Schumer made Sunday when he called upon the Federal Trade Commission to provide guidelines for all social networking websites. An FTC spokesperson responded receptively to Schumer’s call, saying, “Our plan is to develop a framework that social networks and others will use to guide their data collection, use and sharing practices.”
