Financial Reform Halted in Senate, President Seeks to Rally Support

President Obama promoted the financial reform effort at a town hall meeting in Ottumwa, Iowa. His “White House to Main Street” tour continues in Missouri and Illinois tomorrow.

Private negotiations over financial regulatory reform legislation continue in the Senate after a vote to begin a floor debate on the bill failed for the second time in another 57-41 vote. Sen. Ben Nelson (D-NE) joined all the Republican members in voting against the motion.
