Forward progress: Penn State needs to move beyond the Freeh report

PITTSBURGH POST-GAZETTE EDITORIAL: No matter what, there will always be some Penn State alumni and supporters who will never agree with the damning report issued by former FBI director Louis Freeh in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal.

Their outrage over the report, which became the foundation for an agreement on sanctions for the university by the NCAA, fueled campaigns to elect nine new alumni members to Penn State’s board of trustees and continues to drive efforts to investigate the Freeh investigation itself.

The proponents were dealt their latest setback on Tuesday, when the board voted 17-9 against a resolution to reopen that inquiry… (more)

EDITOR: We disagree. An immense injustice was done to the late coach Joe Paterno, the Penn State foot ball teams past and present, and the university itself. We should never forget and we should continue to seek justice. The battle is far from over.

In fact, the tide is slowly changing and next Tuesday will in part be a public referendum.

Let’s hope the matter finally gets to court and depositions can be taken of the various participants, especially Gov. Tom Corbett and representatives of the NCAA.
