Two atrocities: One by PA Senate, the other by PA Media

By Robert Field

If the Pennsylvania Senate succeeds in forcing Attorney General Kathleen Kane from office by distorting the meaning of a long dormant 19th Century law, the entire concept of three co-equal bodies – legislative, executive and judicial – will have been replaced by the ability of the Senate alone to discharge elected public officials at its whim and pleasure.

This will be unprecedented for any state or the nation itself.

The very prospect of such a development is so contrary to American values that there should be huge outcry from Governor Tom Wolf, the judiciary, the media and the public.

Unfortunately, they have all gotten so invested in hounding Kane from office, they are looking the other way. And once again, the Pennsylvania media is establishing what dullards they are.

And if Kane is ousted before having a chance to confront her accusers either through an impeachment process or jury trial, then what is to be said to her and the millions who voted for her if and when she is acquitted?

“Oops, sorry about that.”

A horrible precedent will have been set and countenanced by supreme court members who have soiled themselves with inappropriate behavior, cover ups of member misdoings, and with the premature suspension of Kane’s law license upon recommendations of a now discredited advisory board.

The whole thing seems like a larger version of the inanities surrounding the ‘slow walked’ Jerry Sandusky investigation, the firing of Coach Joe Paterno, the Freeh report nonsense, and the usurpation of powers by the NCAA which sullied Penn State’s reputation, cost the university about $80 million in fines, and crushed its football program.

But this time the consequences are far greater.

If the Senate is allowed to fire Kane, Pennsylvania, already rated one of the most corrupt states in the union, will become its laughing stock.

And no elected Pennsylvania official, including Gov. Wolf, will dare risk alienating senators and their cohorts.

The above is so obvious. People need to voice objections while there is still time.
