Six suggestions for launching a successful weekly tabloid

1) Publishing a tabloid is a business enterprise, so it requires a viable business plan.

2) Ways must be found to distribute at least ten thousand copies each week, preferably twenty thousand.

3) Advertisements must be solicited from the outset, not done as an after thought and desultorily.

4) The lead stories should be responsible and informative, not mean spirited, inaccurate, poorly written and lacking substance.

5) There needs to be sufficient up front capital to subsidize the venture for the six months it likely will take to reach break even.

6) A weekly tabloid should be centered on features, community activities, dining, and entertainment. News articles should be informative, but not provocative. (Offending the establishment is NewsLanc’s job!)
