Radical reforms come to Lancaster County

Dateline: April 1, 2010

After a hastily called special board meeting, Lancaster General Hospital has announced a $20 million program in support of local public health and education needs, including a one time $5 million grant to the Lancaster Public Library on Duke Street towards it renovation and expansion; $250,000 a year to provide five day a week clinic for treatment of heroin addicts; and a $100,000 annual donation for the Urban League to maintain a syringe exchange.

Penn Square Partners has agreed to renegotiate all of its agreements with the Lancaster County Convention Center Authority, whereby terms and conditions will be consistent with industry standards including:  PSP will pay its fair share of  expenses, proper commissions on food concession revenue, and Dale High will relinquish his naming rights.  In addition, the partners have agreed to pay both the School District of Lancaster and the City a minimum of $100,000 a year each in lieu of real estate taxes.

As his parting act before leaving for Drexel University, John Fry has sent a letter of apology to Ron Harper, Jr. for the mugging Fry witnessed of Harper by F & M security police, and has agreed to have an independent expert conduct an analysis of whether there is a better location available for the relocation of the Norfolk and Southern railyard.

The Sunday News will print a “mea culpa” from Chairman Jack Buckwalter apologizing for the Lancaster Newspapers slanted reporting and misrepresentations concerning the proposed convention center project.

The Pennsylvania Academy of Music has announced plans to move to the lower level of the Brunswick Hotel to continue its training of youngsters with plans to ultimately become an international music school providing high school and master degrees.

Upon learning the above, Robert Field announced that NewsLanc is being turned over to Randolph Carney, Cliff Lewis and Christian Hart-Nibbrig and Field and family are at long last moving to Manhattan.

Would that all of the above were true!

  1. I have to say, you had me for a quick second with your article “Radical Reforms come to Lancaster County” (at least the first paragraph had me until I continued reading). I should have realized it was April Fools Day!

I guess I’m still holding on to the hope that someone will step up and do the right thing for the community.

  2. What a clever and meaningful April Fools post on Newslanc. I was halfway through it when I realized that many issues you have been so ardulently trying to resolve are all falling into place overnight! I was almost ready to send an email on how proud you must be to have accomplished [resolution of]so many problems to which you have been lamenting.

How unfortunate they have yet to happen, but it did make me chuckle.

  3. On the 25th anniversary of George Plimpton’s classic story in Sports illustrated “The curious case of Sid Finch”;…….this is also a classic………BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
