PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER

Article “Happy hours to expand in bill sent to Corbett” reports: “Under legislation that received final House passage on Wednesday, bars and restaurants will get more flexibility to schedule the times they sell cheap drinks each week.

“Bars would still have to comply with the total 14-hour-a-week happy-hour limit, but the bill increases the happy-hour period from two hours to four hours a day…

“The legislation is part of a bill to address several issues in the state’s arcane liquor code.”

WATCHDOG: As someone licensed to serve alcohol in two states, we do not see anything “arcane” about not permitting  people to consume cheap liquor for four hours straight.  We think the current two-hour limit is very sensible

Servers are trained to decline to serve those who show signs of inebriation, but that is very chancy indeed.   People engaged because they are disposed to be friendly do not have the disposition of police persons.

When the customer gets in his car, the results can be and tragically often are  lethal.

  1. What am I not understanding here?! If you’re upset because your happy hour is limited to only 2 hours, then just lower everyday price!

EDITOR: Sorry if we weren’t clear. We favor the current two hour limit to happy hours. We expanded the Watchdogs comment to clarify his position. Thanks.

  2. Oh FYI, I didn’t mean you personally with my comment, but bar owners in general.
