Pa. Lottery’s booming, so why change course?

DELAWARE VALLEY DAILY TIMES Editorial: …So this is probably not the best time for news to emerge that Illinois is having some trouble with its foray into privatized lottery operations, having failed to reach its profit targets for a second consecutive year.

Certainly we’re not talking apples and apples here. Illinois has a bigger population but smaller overall lottery sales, perhaps a testament to the outsized performance of the Pennsylvania Lottery as it operates now.

But it seems prudent to wait and see how similar experiments fare before we spring from the high dive. In the meantime, perhaps, we might rethink the notion that it’s better to knee-jerk our lottery into private hands than find new ways to supplement its champion-caliber performance… (more)
