Mall manager not concerned about proposed shopping center

Many would argue that High Real Estate’s proposed Crossings shopping center could deal a painful blow to the profitability of the Park City Center, but Park City general manager Rachel Gallagher isn’t complaining. At least for now. “I don’t think it would be a significant impact to us,” Gallagher told NewsLanc, noting that the Crossings has already drawn interest from outside retailers that the mall would not have room to accommodate.

Gallagher did admit, however, that “one or two” of Park City’s vendors could potentially opt to move into the Crossings. “But we have such a strong draw with national retailers that we really aren’t concerned that people are going to be jumping,” Gallagher qualified.

The Park City Center, which is annexed into Lancaster City, plays a crucial role in that municipal tax base; the Crossings, however, to be located across from Long’s Park, would pay taxes to Manheim Township.

In terms of vacant spaces, Gallagher told NewsLanc that the recession has not been too cruel to the mall thus far. Out of 170 spaces, Gallagher said, the mall has a total of six vacancies—only about two more than the center is accustomed to. “It’s a touch more but not significant,” she asserted. According to Gallagher, most of the recent vacancies have come as a result of downsizing national retailers.
