LNP’ covers but fails to report on cause of student’s arrest

A graduating senior was arrested and graduation services postponed because he allegedly said something about the Columbine school shooting.

What LNP’s readers of the original and follow up article lack is any information about what he said!

Did he make a threat? Did school officials and authorities panic over nothing? Is this a civil rights abuse?

The readers are deprived of an substantive information other than the student mentioned the Columbine shootings, apparently to classmates.

Even worse, LNP prints a picture of the eighteen year old!

The follow up article, still vacuous when it comes to the most pertinent information, is headed:

“Parents OK with Manheim Central’s graduation change, still puzzled by student who prompted it” and goes on to report:

“Police said that Colton Charles Yeager, who was slated to be among the graduates, acted alone when he made statements about the 1999 Columbine school shooting at a graduation practice on Thursday.

“Those statements prompted an evacuation and search of the planned graduation site, LCBC’s Manheim campus on Mount Joy Road.”

At best this is one sided, amateurish reporting and editing. At worse this is another case of LNP piling on.

  1. Lower your expectations.

Remember the LNP is an advertising publication, not a newspaper. The ads are priority and the “news” however obtained, is filler.

  2. I totally agree with the first comment printed. LNP no longer can be considered a ‘news’paper. There is far more print space devoted to advertising than actual ‘news’ stories in the daily editions, and the Sunday edition is a total affront to the print journalism profession.

I have a sense that unless the ‘reporters’ can generate their stories from the comfortable cubicles by using e-mails, social media and their cellphones, that they would be unable to print anything. I wonder when the last time was that any of them actually left the building and actually ‘talked’ to anyone?

Ownership/management of this so-called newspaper has done a great disservice to this community with this ‘Always Lancaster” direction they have taken.

And, if ownership/ management/ editors really want to delve into the ‘Right To Know’ issue…..every taxpayer in Lancaster City/County has a
‘Right to Know’ what the REAL story is behind the past, present and future financial manipulations of the Convention Center/Marriott Hotel by certain ‘powers elite’. Perhaps if that portion of Penn Square were to be put back on the tax rolls, there may be some more dollars available to address issues like streets, crime, poverty and the list goes on and on and on.
