Scott Martin Announces Bid for PA State Senate 13th District

“While I have been honored to have so many people approach me about running for Congress, my priorities lie closer to home right now.”
LANCASTER, PA – Ending speculation about a possible run for Congress in the wake of the retirement announcement of Congressman Joe Pitts, Lancaster County Commissioner Scott Martin today announced that he will run for the Pennsylvania State Senate in the 13th District.

“While I have been honored to have so many people from across our community and the state approach and encourage me to run for Congress, my priorities lie closer to home right now,” Martin said. “I am the proud father of two young sons. After spending the last couple of years helping to coach their sports teams and participating in the other activities of their lives, I felt that serving in Congress would take me away from them too much. They are a priority to me. Serving the people of the 13th District would be an honor that allows me to continue my record of public service while still being an active and present part of their lives.”

Martin has served as a Lancaster County Commissioner since 2008, and has built a strong conservative record of protecting taxpayers, controlling spending, and shrinking the size of government. As a Commissioner, he has never voted for a property tax increase, while successfully eliminating unnecessary or duplicative departments and programs, fighting for strong reforms in state and federal law to better protect taxpayers and improve services, and working to make government as efficient and effective as possible. Martin is also
well known for his support of local pro-life organizations and events.

“I look forward to meeting with local residents, community groups, business owners, workers, parents, teachers, and others to hear their ideas about how to move Pennsylvania forward and share my ideas as well,” Martin said, while promising to release a full issues agenda in the coming months. “One thing is for certain though, and that is the need for proven, conservative leadership in the legislature to stand strong against Governor Wolf’s unwavering insistence on massive tax increases on working families, seniors, and job-creating small business owners.”
Martin started his professional career working in juvenile corrections, including as the Director of the County’s Youth Intervention Center. As a commissioner over the last eight
years, he also served in a leadership role with the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania, and as the elected Chairman of the Pennsylvania Republican County Commissioners Caucus. Martin also served on the Governor’s Local Government Advisory Commission for four years.

Martin, 43, has lived in Lancaster County for more than 42 years. He holds a BA in Sociology/Criminology from Millersville University. Martin is a former national High School Heavyweight Wrestling Champion, PIAA State Heavyweight Wrestling Champion and two-time All-American Football player. He has been inducted into the Millersville University Athletic Hall of Fame, the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame-SV chapter, the PIAA District III Wrestling Hall of Fame, and more.

  1. Scott Martins’ ‘conservative record of protecting taxpayers’ will really be put to the text within the next 5 years when the Convention Center goes belly up and PSP pulls out of their sweetheart lease arrangement on the Marriott Hotel.

  2. The anonymous commenter would benefit from reading NewsLanc’s excellent chronology on the convention center.

Scott Martin was the only elected official with any convictions to stand up to Lancaster’s greedy elite when it came to this horrendous blight on our city. This back door ploy for a few rich people and their newspaper friends came way before Martin was ever elected. Martin just called everyone out on it and demanded all parties involved hold themselves accountable.

Scott Martin was the only true conservative and public official who stood up FOR tax payers.

Even to the outrage of his political supporters who turned their back on Mr. Martin when Mr. Martin acted in the best interest of the county and not in the best interest of the HIGH-elite.

History will show that Commissioner Scott Martin was one of the best elected officials our county has ever seen. And he should be our congressman!

But I will settle for Senator. And I am a life long democrat!

As far as Smucker goes, tell him that CRIZ called and his rich buddies tricked him into adding more shame to our city!!!
