Covanta, Harrisburg move out of court, closer to settlement

HARRISBURG PATRIOT-NEWS: Incinerator operator Covanta Energy has agreed to continue debt negotiations out of court as with other stakeholders involved in talks to resolve the municipality’s debt estimated between $345 million and $370 million.

“There is no settlement, just an agreement to continue discussions (already ongoing, just outside) of court,” said receiver’s spokesman Cory Angell. “Those discussions involve the total amount. No agreement yet, but we are happy they are talking.”…

According to a motion filed June 18, the company opposed the city’s requested stay because it would prevent Covanata from jockeying for priority repayment through proceeds from the upcoming Wild West artifacts auction that begins July 15 on the same public works compound as the incinerator… (more)
