With trial looming, parties in Penn State sanctions case will try again for a ‘diplomatic resolution’

HARRISBURG PATRIOT NEWS: In a late court filing with Commonwealth Court, lawyers for state Sen. Jake Corman and Pennsylvania Treasurer Rob McCord noted they have asked by letter for the suit over the sanctions’ validity to be placed in the court’s mediation program.

With a Jan. 6 trial date set, the request essentially means Corman and McCord are willing to take one more attempt at reaching a negotiated, out-of-court settlement with the NCAA.

“We have an obligation to see if we can resolve this matter in a way that is other than spending the Commonwealth’s money at a trial, especially if an early resolution results in a favorable outcome,” said Corman’s attorney, Matthew Haverstick… (more)

EDITOR: It would be a tragedy for the case not to go to trial. We need to learn more about what transpired behind the scenes.

Moreover, the time has come for the charges against Penn State officials to be discharged.

This whole thing was a classic witch trial. Attention to the crimes of Jerry Sandusky and the negligence of former Attorney General Tom Corbett were diverted to people who hardly had anything to do with the matter.

And the NCAA was guilty of over stepping its authority and terrible judgment.
