Why is Kathleen Kane prosecuting Barbara Mancini?

HARRISBURG PATRIOT-NEWS Editorial: Will Barbara Mancini go to prison because she honored her 93-year-old, terminally ill father’s wishes and handed him enough drinkable morphine to possibly hasten his death?

Pennsylvania Attorney General Kathleen Kane is pursuing the case, because she says that’s what the state’s law against assisted suicide requires.

Kane’s decision is questionable, based on what is known before the judge imposed a gag order. Unless some critical facts are yet to emerge, the Mancini case seems like the kind that a compassionate prosecutor, one who knows the pain families often endure as a loved one suffers a prolonged and difficult death, would refuse to pursue… (more)

EDITOR: Due to the issue involved, this case is being debated on national talk shows. The law does not reflect the views of a large majority of the people. Oregon and three other states have made euthanasia legal.

  1. KK is turning into a bit of disappointment. If she truly believes she is required to enforce the laws on the books, then she should also enforce the PA DOMA laws.

    If she wants to change laws, then she ran for the wrong office.
