White House Battles NYT Over Iran Nuclear Report

NEWSMAX: With the presidential election potentially riding on Monday’s foreign policy debate, the White House is denying a New York Times report that the Obama administration has for the first time agreed to one-on-one talks with Iran over its nuclear program…

“It’s not true that the United States and Iran have agreed to one-on-one talks or any meeting after the American elections,” the statement said. “We continue to work with the P-5 (five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council) on a diplomatic solution and have said from the outset that we would be prepared to meet bilaterally.”…

The New York Times cited Obama administration officials on Saturday as saying that the agreement “in principle” was the result of intense, secret exchanges between the two countries that date back to the beginning of President Obama’s presidency… (more)

EDITOR: Let’s hope it is true.   A negotiated settlement that would achieve our objectives has been the goal of our policy towards Iran.   Ramifications from military action would likely be devastating for the entire Mid-East and, as a result, the Western World.  President Obama has demonstrated being tough without being stupid.
