EDITOR: This may prove to be a historic moment. We suspect that most Americans have resented the focus on the private lives of political candidates, recognizing their own human foibles. They aren’t marrying into the candidates family. They simply want someone who can do a good job in office.
This sentiment was expressed by many in their reaction to the Bill Clinton / Monica Lewinsky relationship that led to Clinton’s impeachment…of all things! (Of course, he was not convicted by the Senate.) Outrage at the fuss was largely then expressed by Democrats.
When Gingrich publicly spanked CNN and ABC last evening, it wasn’t only the conservative audience that was cheering. It was much of the rest of the country watching the debate from their living rooms.
Ironicly, it was Gingrich who hypocritically attacked Clinton while he himself was carrying on an extra marital affair.
