Verbatim heated exchange between Gray and Smithgall

The below transcript was taken from “REPLAY: Lancaster mayoral debate between Rick Gray and Charlie Smithgall”:

(Smithgall gave his closing remarks first. The following then occurred during Gray’s closing comments:)

GRAY: “He didn’t mind taking $300,000 from the county to preserve his firing range in Southern Lancaster County”

SMITHGALL: “What was that?”

GRAY: “Don’t interrupt me please.”

When Gray finished his closing:

SMITHGALL: “I got to respond to something on that.”

MODERATOR BARBARA RHODA: “Okay. I’ll allow one minute response from either one. And then I am going to close it out.”

GRAY: “These were closings and we decided who goes last.”

RHODA: Will both of you be able to stay around for a while afterwards?

GRAY: “I have a birthday party for my 18 year old grandson back there that I am waiting to go to. I am not going to be around long. I am going to get out as soon as I can.”

SMITHGALL: “You said a minute?”

RHODA: “Quickly, 30 seconds. Very quickly. Go ahead.”

SMITHGALL: . “You said I got $300,000 from the county for the firing range? Absolutely untrue. The county practices at my range absolutely for free. Your allegations are so full of crap it is pathetic.”

GRAY: “Your farm in Drumore [Township]: You didn’t get $300,000 from the county?”

SMITHGALL: “For farm preservation.”

  1. Gray seems to be real good at twisting facts and figures to support whatever position he wants the public to hear….much like his puppet-meister…..LNP.

Speaking of LNP…I noticed in todays’ (10/25) paper that PSP shill Bernard Harris has another riveting article about the Convention Center finances.

“The countywide tax is intended to reflect the countywide economic benefit of the downtown center. Attendees of the quilt shows, volleyball tournaments, corporate meetings, concerts and other center events are expected to spend money in the county’s hotels, restarurants, shops and gas stations”.

Where are the facts and figures to document how much ‘COUNTYWIDE’ economic impact is being created by the DOWNTOWN Convention Center????
