The Steinman’s should pack their LNP bags and move on

It is an intolerable situation when the owners and operators of the local newspaper’s primary goal is to further their real estate and hotel interests by using their media influence to further feed at the public trough.

We thought that LNP’s conduct during the run up to the development of the Convention Center was an anomaly, an aberration in the Steinman family’s history of conducting an honorable newspaper and pursuing the public interest.

Their failure to ever take responsibility for their despicable actions in the process of enriching themselves through leasing and equitable ownership of the Marriott Hotel, their refusal more recently to contribute towards the bail out of the convention center project, their promoting the CRIZ program that steals future tax revenue from our children to indirectly benefit their interests both in renovating the Convention Center and enlarging the Marriott Hotel… all are indications that they have decided they have no future in the newspaper business in Lancaster.

LNP cannot conscientiously serve as the shepherd and at the same time be the wolf.

The sooner they exit the publishing business here in Lancaster and simply pursue their hotel and downtown real estate interests the better it will be for our community. We welcome the investments in downtown Lancaster, but not at the public risk and cost.

Perhaps their successor will seek to protect the public interests. At least they won’t be exploiting them.
