Self-interest cartography

From the SCRANTON TIMES-TRIBUNE:

Pennsylvania’s new map of congressional districts is as twisted as the rhetoric employed by the politicians who drew it, as they try to justify it on the basis of anything other than raw politics.

Rep. Mike Turzai, for example, the House majority leader, effectively asked people not to believe their own eyes when he declared that the map is fair. If not, he wondered aloud, why did many Democrats vote for it?

Good question. Since the map is a series of bald-faced gerrymanders to protect Republican incumbents, such as first-term Reps. Lou Barletta of Hazleton and Pat Meehan of Delaware County, one would think that Democrats would vote against it…

EDITOR: More evidence of the current legislative arrogant attitude of ‘The public be damned.’  No wonder Congress and we expect state legislatures are held in such disrepute, the most recent Gallup poll showing Congress with an 11% approval and 86% disapproval rating!
