MARTIN ENDORSED FOR STATE SENATE BY LANCASTER COUNTY’S MOST TRUSTED LEADERS

LANCASTER COUNTY, PA – Scott Martin, who is running for State Senate in the 13th District of Pennsylvania, today announced that he has received the support and endorsement of Lancaster County’s most trusted leaders.

Endorsing Martin’s candidacy are current county office holders County Commissioner Dennis Stuckey, District Attorney Craig Stedman, Sheriff Mark Reese, Controller Brian Hurter, Coroner Stephen Diamantoni, Prothonotary Katherine Wood-Jacobs, Recorder of Deeds Bonnie Bowman, and Treasurer Craig Ebersole. Martin has also received the endorsement of newly elected Treasurer Amber Green, who will begin her term in 2016.

“We are endorsing Scott Martin for State Senator because we have seen firsthand his commitment to smaller, more effective government that protects taxpayers and – more importantly – his proven record of making it a reality,” District Attorney Craig Stedman said in speaking for the group.

“While others can only talk about how they may act in Harrisburg, Scott Martin is leader with a proven record that the people of Lancaster County can look to as an indicator of his ability to get positive results for them,” Commissioner Dennis Stuckey stated.

Martin first took office in 2008, when Lancaster County government was deep in debt and public dissatisfaction was so great that calls were being made to change to a Home Rule Charter form of government. He ran on a platform of restoring both fiscal responsibility and the public trust in county government. Leading, and working with, other county officials, Martin implemented changes that fulfilled his pledge. Some highlights of Martin’s record include:

• Downsizing government by eliminating departments and a county authority, as well as reducing staff through attrition;

– MORE –

• Reducing county debt by $40 million;

• Building a pro-free enterprise business climate resulting in new job
growth;

• Ensuring taxpayers a level playing field with labor unions by banning project labor agreements, fighting for prevailing wage reform, etc;

• Reducing costs for taxpayers through privatization and public employee benefit reform;

• Never voting for a property tax increase; and,

• Making public safety a priority by supporting law enforcement,
addressing drug crime, and more.

“I’m honored to have the endorsement of these local leaders in my race for State Senate. When the people you have worked with, or who will continue the work we have done in making Lancaster County strong, support you it sends a strong message to the public about who you are as a leader and an elected official,” Martin said. “I look forward to promoting the proven record we have built as an example of why I can be trusted to go to Harrisburg and fight for the proven Republican principles that will address the challenges our state faces.”

Before entering public service, Martin worked for 13 years in the juvenile justice system. He was also the owner-operator of three real estate units and was a licensed Pennsylvania Realtor for 15 years.

Martin is a lifelong resident of Lancaster County. One of seven children of a career law enforcement officer and a Catholic school teacher, Martin is the father of two young sons and is active as a youth sports coach. A graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School and Millersville University, Martin is a former national and statewide wrestling champion, as well as a two-time All-American football player.

  1. A couple of thoughts here…

    -No mention of support from Smucker. I had assumed from the start that when Martin decided to go after Smucker’s seat as opposed to Pitts’ seat, they had made a deal whereby Martin would have Smucker’s support now for his old job and his support later for his new job?

    -Scott Martin came up with a workable 5-year solution to the CC funding problems. I know he has taken a lot of heat for that solution and the increased County guarantee from conservatives, and I am surprised by that as he was merely bailing out the project that he predecessors and GOP darlings (Thibault, Armstrong, Barley, Smithgall, etc) created for their buddies at PSP. On the other hand, PSP (High) wanted the simpler increase to the hotel tax to solve the problems of the CC that High foisted upon us. Martin resisted that solution.

    Martin might pay dearly for it because the candidate that Dale High wants, Lancaster County gets. I don’t think that candidate is Scott Martin.

  2. So much for him not being the party elites choice, just listed off half the elected officials in the county. Martin’s as big a party boy as they come. Don’t know why the rank and file are abandoning him though?

  3. All of those endorsing Scott Martin, probably just lost the support of LNP/PSP. Their political futures would now appear to be in doubt, given the way things work in Lancaster County.

  4. The elected officials who are supporting Martin are all probably never going to seek reelection so they have nothing to lose. Only new one mentioned is Amber Green …

    Look at where the county was 8 years ago and compare it to where it is today.

    We should be thanking all Of these people for their service. But that wouldn’t be entertaining or give us anything juicy to talk about.

  5. I was quite surprised to see LNP actually write Commissioner Martin a fair article. Shocked, because before, he could have saved small children from a burning fire and they’d spin it and blame him because the kids inhaled smoke.

    Maybe LNP realizes that NewsLanc will not allow them to spin our next senate and congress races. We will be stuck with whomever we pick for these two spots for a very long time. Choose wisely.

    Whether you love or hate Scott Martin, you can not deny his ability to save the county money. And he isn’t anyone’s puppet.

    EDITOR: The Press Release was from “Friends of Scott Martin”, not LNP. We apologize for not making that clear and have subsequently so edited the article.
