Residents Save Over $120,000 Using the Lancaster County Prescription Drug Discount Card
Lancaster, PA (December 3, 2009) – “Lancaster County residents have saved more than $120,000 on over 6,800 prescriptions since the Board of Commissioners launched the Lancaster County Prescription Drug Discount Card Program on May 29, 2009,” announced Commissioner Scott Martin. “During the month of October, over 1,300 residents realized a savings on their prescription medications – that is money placed right back into the pockets of our residents.”
“The number of residents who utilize the Lancaster County Prescription Drug Discount Card each month continues to rise,” said Commissioner Stuckey. “We strive to ensure that all residents, who have medications that are not covered by another insurance plan, are aware of this program and are able to easily obtain and use this discount card, especially in these difficult times.”
“The success of the Lancaster County Prescription Drug Discount Card program can be attributed to the many individuals and entities who have partnered with us to distribute the cards,” said Commissioner Craig Lehman. “We thank all of our partners and encourage anyone who would like to share this discount with people in their community to contact our office at 299-8300 for additional information.” A complete list of locations where the public can obtain a discount card is provided on the Lancaster County website at www.co.lancaster.pa.us.
Lancaster County has made the free prescription drug discount cards available under a program sponsored by the National Association of Counties (NACo) and administered by Caremark that offers savings off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs for prescriptions not covered by another health insurance plan. The card may be used by all county residents regardless of age, income, or existing health coverage, and are accepted at 91 pharmacies in Lancaster County and over 59,000 pharmacies nationwide.
