Pennsylvania lawmaker calls NCAA taking Penn State’s $60 million fine out of state ‘an indefensible position’

HARRISBURG PATRIOT-NEWS: A bill in the General Assembly would require the $60 million in fines Penn State University must pay the NCAA to be spent on programs in Pennsylvania…

These are dollars that are raised through athletic ticket prices, things of that nature, that are raised mostly through Pennsylvanians that would go to benefit Pennsylvanians if it wasn’t taken away in this manner,” [Centre County RepublicanState Senator Jake] Corman said. “If we are going to pay for programs with this money, they should be programs here in Pennsylvania.”

The consent degree between Penn State and the NCAA says all sanctions must comply with state law. Corman believes his bill, if enacted, would dictate where the money must be spent, as long as the other aspects of the consent decree — including that the money cannot be spent on programs related to Penn State — are followed…  (more)
