No Surprise for Bisexual Men: Report Indicates They Exist

From the NEW YORK TIMES:

In an unusual scientific about-face, researchers at Northwestern University have found evidence that at least some men who identify themselves as bisexual are, in fact, sexually aroused by both women and men.

The finding is not likely to surprise bisexuals, who have long asserted that attraction often is not limited to one sex. But for many years the question of bisexuality has bedeviled scientists. A widely publicized study published in 2005, also by researchers at Northwestern, reported that “with respect to sexual arousal and attraction, it remains to be shown that male bisexuality exists.”

That conclusion outraged bisexual men and women, who said it appeared to support a stereotype of bisexual men as closeted homosexuals…

EDITOR : One need only study anthropology or history to note that a significant portion of males are inherently bi-sexual.  This may be especially true during youth.  The same applies to women, perhaps moreso.

  1. I found the article on bi-sexuality interesting and welcome in terms of its subject matter. It brought to mind Alfred Kinsey’s great studies, and spectrum. Seems very few people are absolutely hetero- or homosexual. Most fall somewhere within Kinsey’s poles. The public’s denial of widespread homosexuality also brought to mind an episode from my youth. I won’t forget the moment. It was a ninth grade health class in my Southern California junior high school. The teacher was on the subject of masturbation. He said that 99% of boys our age masturbated. We were seated in pods of five in the class. And I, like all the other boys, turned to my podmates and said, “Well, I guess I’m in that 1% who doesn’t do it, then.” Of course we were all lying through our stained drawers!

Kudos for bringing to the Lancaster reading public these off-beat, yet important issues.
