When the Hotel Brunswick was closed by the Lancaster City Fire Bureau last summer, the Rhumba Night Club—which rented an adjacent Lancaster Square space from the hotel—had to close its doors as well. With the Brunswick yet to satisfy all building code inspection requirements, Rhumba owner Ricky Caleron has begun shopping for a new downtown location.
Caleron is unaware of any current plans for the Brunswick to re-open. “I just don’t know what the owner wants to do,” he said.
Caleron has not yet seen any strong prospects, but he hopes to locate a space around the center of downtown, close to his existing client base. “I’d say probably between the next three or four months the Rhumba should be in a new place—I hope,” Caleron asserted.
In the meantime, Caleron has been producing evening events hosted at the Chameleon Club—including Thanksgiving and New Year’s parties. These “Rhumba Club” events have afforded Caleron the opportunity to keep the name and spirit of the club alive until a new location is secured. Another such event is being planned for March, Caleron said.
