NewsLanc erred re Hospital Authority powers

In a recent posting, since corrected, NewsLanc’s reporter stated that the Lancaster County Hospital Authority would likely be unable to provide financing for Lancaster General’s West Earl project due to a limitation in the Municipal Authorities Act stating that projects which “in whole or in part shall duplicate or compete with existing enterprises serving substantially the same purposes” would not be eligible.

Unfortunately, he failed to realize that the Act later states that this limitation does not apply to “to hospital projects or health centers to be leased to or financed with loans to public hospitals, nonprofit corporation health centers or nonprofit hospital corporations serving the public.”

We apologize for the error.
