New year, new leadership: LNP publisher is now chairman of paper’s parent company

LNP: LNP’s parent company marked a passing of the torch Thursday when Robert M. Krasne succeeded Beverly R. “Peggy” Steinman as chairman of the Steinman Communications board of directors…

In addition to the daily print newspaper and LancasterOnline, the Steinman enterprises encompass the Fly, La Voz Hispana, Lancaster Farming, Ephrata Review and Lititz Record-Express publications; Intelligencer Printing Company; Steinman Marketing Solutions; The Pressroom Restaurant; Delmarva Broadcasting Company, which owns 12 radio stations in Delaware and Maryland; Steinman Real Estate LLC; and an investment in Penn Square Partners, the private entity that owns the franchise for the Lancaster Marriott at Penn Square hotel that adjoins the Lancaster County Convention Center…

Krasne, who has known Steinman since 1982 and is the husband of her niece, Hale Ansberry Krasne, said the leadership Steinman showed in the midst of her grief was “nothing short of extraordinary.”

An attorney and former business school professor, he did not have any involvement with the company until the past several years, when he and his wife moved to Lancaster — originally with plans to retire… (more)

NEWSLANC EDITOR: With the arrival of Krasne, an anomalistic era of incompetence, bullying and deceit was replaced by sound business practices and respectable reporting. Nevertheless, an attitude of ‘getting along’ largely exempts powerful leaders, advertisers and subscribers from just criticism.

LNP will never be a miniature New York Times and, if it were, would not likely survive. Long may it continue to serve many of the needs of our community.

Perhaps doing better in the future is the best apology for the past.

  1. When is LNP going to become as diverse in it’s management, editorial and reporting staffs as the communities they purportedly represent?

When is LNP going to provide full disclosure on how much their Marriott Hotel (their money) is gouging the Convention Center (our money)?

When is LNP going to call on the carpet the Mayor, the Police Chief and our Judges for the lawlessness prevalent on our streets?

If by ‘sound business practices’, you are referring to PSP robbing from the poor (taxpayers) to give to the rich (themselves)….well you are certainly correct on that one.

‘Respectable reporting’?…..by who. when, on what??????

EDITOR: It wasn’t that many years ago when articles in LNP were factually incorrect and slanted, often as much due to reporter and editor incompetence as anything else. When this occurs these days, please bring it to our attention.
