“Be alert to Haiti relief scams” reports “More than 400 Internet addresses related to Hati have been registered since Monday’s quake, using words such as ‘earthquake’, ‘aid’, ‘’victims’ and ‘survivors.’ Many are legitimate, but many are not, say security experts.”

The editors advise “If you know a charity’s track record and want to donate, by all means – donate.  But if a charity is unfamiliar to you, do some checking first.”

WATCHDOG: A wag of the tail! A good place to check is CharityNavigator.org If the organization isn’t listed, forget it. Better to stick with the tried and true, highly rated organizations such as CARE, Save The Children, and the Red Cross.
