NEW ERA

Editorial “Beardsley; closed primary; Giuliani” quotes Democratic County Chair Bruce Beardsley as saying in a newsletter:  “He (president)does so amidst a poisonous, polarized political atmosphere where a small minority of medieval minds with evil thoughts has climbed out from under their rock while the establishment political opposition pays them silent credence and follows a cynical strategy of pure obstructionism.”

WATCHDOG: A wag of the tail.

Although there is much to what Beardsley was trying to convey, we concur with the editors that such extreme rhetoric is unhelpful.   One can criticize and argue without dehumanizing and impugning patriotism.   Throwing ‘raw meat’ to core supporters can also drive some Democrats to become Independents, as has happened with the Republicans.
