New competition coming for Pa. casinos?: New York state voters approve major gambling expansion

HARRISBURG PATRIOT-NEWS: New York State is about to double-down on casinos. No longer will legal gambling be confined to about five Native American reservations upstate. Now that about 57 percent of New York state voters approved a gambling expansion, as many as seven more private casinos will open across New York.

Once again, another state is betting on gambling to provide new sources of non-tax revenue for local governments and school districts. And by the way, New York officials are betting big that the casino expansion will stem the flow of New York gambling money to Pennsylvania and other neighboring states by offering more casino options at home…
