National survey of patients ranks LGH highest in region

HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) is a national survey that asks patients about their experiences during a recent hospital stay. In comparison with York Hospital and Reading Hospital Medical Center, Lancaster General Hospital is consistently rated higher by a national survey of hospital patients.

Perhaps the most important of the many responses pertained to “Patients who gave their hospital a rating of 9 or 10 on a scale from 0 (lowest) to 10 (highest).”  LGH received a 74% score, as compared to 65% for York General and 63% for Reading.

Also of especial significance, patients who said they would “definitely recommend their hospital” were 82% for Lancaster, as compared to 65% for York and 63% for Reading.

In comparison with Heart of Lancaster and Lancaster Regional Hospital,

LGH was  “rated” 74%, compares to 71% and 61% respectively.  As to “definitely recommend their hospital”, LGH again leads with 82%, versus 71% and 65%.

In comparison with Ephrata General Community Hospital, LGH surpassed 74% to 58% for patients’ ratings and 82% to 64% for  patients’ recommendations.

These figures tend to support the selection by another of LGH as one of the top hundred hospitals in the country for the quality of medical care.

  1. I often see this site criticize LGH for the huge profits they make. It’s good to see balanced coverage such as this article.

    The hospital may make a lot of money, but for me I’d rather have my doctor or hospital get rich keeping me healthy than people on Wall Street, who IMO, add very little to our society.
