Mounting public pressure forces Corbett to hold hearing, consider delaying lottery deal

PHILLYBURBS.COM … At a press conference Thursday afternoon to unveil a state-operated website designed to make government more transparent, Corbett said he’s considering holding a public hearing to answer the questions that people have been asking about the proposed 20- to 30-year contract with Camelot Global Services for the management of the state’s $3.5 billion lottery operation…

Some lawmakers have said the General Assembly should be able to review and approve the agreement with Camelot because it could lead to the expansion of gaming in Pennsylvania. That oversight is not happening now, they’ve said.

State Treasurer Rob McCord is threatening to not pay Camelot if attorneys decide any additional games the company brings to the commonwealth to increase revenue, such as Keno and Internet gaming, aren’t legal…  (more)
