McCord blasts consultant fees on stalled lottery contract

PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE: Republican Gov. Tom Corbett’s stalled effort to privatize the state lottery is a “gross waste of money,” draining senior programs of millions of dollars for consultants and lawyers, Treasurer Rob McCord said on Monday.

McCord, a candidate for governor in a crowded Democratic field, said Corbett’s effort to bring in British firm Camelot Global Services to run the lottery has cost $3.4 million so far…

The $3.4 million paid to date on lottery privatization includes $2.36 million to consultant DLA Piper, and $116,000 to the Blank Rome law firm, McCord said.   1. Oh what malarkey!

    For years now the Pa lottery has grossed about $3.5 billion per year and less than $1 billion goes to the seniors. Even if $1 billion is awarded as prize money where is the other $1.5 billion EVERY YEAR?!

    Someone’s just worried they’re going to lose they cushy lottery jobs or lucrative billboard, radio, and TV advertising. And this guy’s suddenly concerned with a measly $3.5 million dollars. Wake up.

    EDITOR: I guess the question is what is the percentage of net income from revenue elsewhere. Obviously, lotteries are a very inefficient way to raise tax money.
