Editorial “Running food service operations an iffy proposition for Manheim Township commissioners” wisely opines:
“We concur with John Longstreet, president and CEO of the Pennsylvania Restaurant & Lodging Association — and a former mayor — who told LNP last week that the complicated restaurant business is a potential drain on tax dollars, and a distraction for local government.”
Where LNP goes wrong is as follows:
“[Al Kling, vice president of Manheim Township’s board of commissioners] said 32 weddings and 23 other events have been booked over the next 12-14 months at The Barn at Overlook.
“We are as alarmed as anyone at the prospect of 32 distressed brides and grooms, scrambling to make other arrangements for their weddings.
“So sure, Manheim Township, honor your commitment to those couples, and the others planning big events at the Barn.”
No, the township servicing the banquets is all wrong. All it needs to do is make the The Barn available to outside caterers. It is common for landlords to make a facility available and caterers to be brought in to service events. Either the ‘happy couples’ or the townshp can hire them.
This is so routine, what is the problem?
