The drama of nuclear power is going unfold in a potentially very scary way this November when they try to remove the fuel rods in Fukushima.
They are essentially trying to lift 1300 very dangerous fuel rods out of the plant; think of trying to pull cigarettes straight up out of a crumpled pack of cigarettes; if one of them breaks or they get too close together serious disaster ensues. Even the least-worst case scenarios put Tokyo at risk. Hopefully, no worst case occurs but this is something that has never been done before and it needs to be done perfectly and is being done by a company with a bad record of achieving perfection… (more)
