Front page article entitled “Heroin: More supply, users create booming market in Lancaster County” reports:

“Other than marijuana, heroin is the number one abused and sold controlled substance in Lancaster County,” said John Burkhart, a detective with the local Drug Task Force, “and has been for over three decades or more.”

“Even more troubling, locals say, heroin is becoming cheaper and more accessible here due to high demand.

“ ‘It’s getting worse,’ District Attorney Craig Stedman said recently. ‘It is certainly a drug of choice.’ ”

WATCHDOG: Two wags of the tail for this informative alert concerning the local expansion of heroin use.

Lancaster Harm Reduction Project, in operation for over a year, dual purposes are:

1) Reduce the spread of disease through providing syringes, condoms and other health objects;

2) Facilitate entry into rehabilitation services when the client expresses the desire.
