LANCASTER SUNDAY NEWS

“By MARV ADAMS, Editorially Speaking

Writing -30- on a career”

“In May 1969, at the age of 18, I walked into 8 W. King St. to start what I thought would be a summer job.

Instead, I walked into a career.

“This morning, as the Sunday paper is being printed, I will walk away after nearly 44 years with Lancaster Newspapers and retire…”

WATCHDOG: What an incalculable loss to Lancaster!   The Sunday News under Marv Adam’s editorship has long been a genuine reason for local pride.   Adams has been to Lancaster journalism what Walter Cronkite and Edward R Murrow were to national journalism:  In Marv’s fairness we trusted, with very few glitches over a long and distinguished career.

We wish him well and advise him to quickly find a vocation or avocation to apply his talents.   Idleness is hell.

  1. Another forced retirement just like Getz? The new Krasne vision?

  2. To compare marvelous Marv Adams with Walter Cronkite and Edward R. Murrow is like comparing our current President to Abraham Lincoln……………….NOT EVEN CLOSE!!!!!!

Marv’s biggest attribute has been to shill the company line, keep the Sunday News staff as lily-white as possible and ‘entertain’ us with thoughts/comments from his daughter.

If there were an alternate news source for lancaster countians, we would not “need” LNP…threy do ‘need us’…if only they would listen to us.

My biggest fear is that Gil “not-so” Smart assumes the position in the future.

  3. Comparing Marv Adams to anything but the [soldier] that he is/was at Lancaster Newspapers is too good for him. I could never for the life of me discern what is/was so compelling about his or his daughter’s little microcosm of the world.

Having said that, Marv is/was the perfect fit for Lancaster newspapers and their habit of providing answers to questions no one asked. Under Marv’s leadership the local wrapper instituted what seemingly has been their new motto: ” If the public gleans anything compelling, informative or useful from our newspaper, we haven’t done our job!”

  4. With all the knock out games the black people took part in and no big mention of it in your paper . Now a white men plays the game and all hell brakes loose in your newspaper. Can you explain or shall we take you as a racist newspaper.

EDITOR: Unfortunately, it is not clear to us to what article the contributor is referring. The link did not prove of any assistance.

However, NewsLanc is not intended to be ‘a paper of record’ nor do we usually cover crime.

We don’t believe those participating in “knock out games” are representative of even a tiny segment of the black community, but rather a bunch of young thugs.

They think of it as a prank. Obviously, it is assault and despicable.

  5. perhaps the most uniformed and silliest comment I’ve read on this site — Edward R. Murrow; Walter Cronkite; and … Marv Adams.
