Lead front page article, “County sues 3 hotels that are behind in room taxes” , reports:
“On July 31, county solicitors filed lawsuits against the owners of the Lancaster Host Resort, 2300 Lincoln Highway East, in East Lampeter Township, and the Rodeway Inn, 3127 Lincoln Highway East, Paradise. On Aug. 2, the county sued the former owner of the Paradise Motor Lodge, 3320 Lincoln Highway East, Paradise.
“According to the complaints, the Lancaster Host Resort owes $33,305 in unpaid hotel taxes from February, March and June, 2012, plus interest and penalty fees.”
WATCHDOG: Note all three hotels in arrears are located on the Rt. 30 East corridor. The chief delinquent is the Host Resort, that prior to the opening of the Lancaster Convention Center accommodated many of the events that now are held downtown, including the Quilt Show. Moreover, when the Host Resort was displaced as the chief destination for major shows and events, the other hotels along the strip also lost much ‘spill over’ business.
Moreover, not only is the Convention Center and Marriott Hotel not paying a cent in city, school district or county real estate taxes, but tax assessment on the injured other hotels are being lowered, thus reducing real estate tax revenues.
Some Lancaster justice! Where so many businesses and tax payers are suffering, there likely is one person who profited and that is S. Dale High who wallowed in the convention center money trough from start to finish.
First we take the bread from their mouths. Then we tax them to support their competitor.
WELL STATED!!!!……………I wonder if LNP would have the intestinal fortitude to print this in their ‘letters to the editor’ section????
Would Gil or Marv have the intestinal fortitude to admit the obvious??
Does anybody within County/City government have the intestinal fortitude to challenge and correct the wrongs of the PSP/Hotel /LCCCA agreements?
Is anybody going to stand up for our hotel industry and city/county taxpayers????
50 grand…BIG DEAL. Should they pay, absolutely they should pay. What does it mean to the colossal financial debacle that we have created…NOTHING.
Maybe if Mr. Ebersole could find someone $5 million in arrears, we could weather the next 5 years or so.
