LANCASTER NEW ERA

Editorial Obama’s reversal on Guantanamo” opines:

“President Barack Obama has decided that confessed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Shikh Mohammed and four alleged accomplices will be prosecuted before military tribunals at Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba, not in New York federal court.

“The decision; while welcome; is a significant blow to Obama’s credibility, given he had been so adamant about trying the 9/11 suspects in civilian court in the United States….

“In December, the U.S. House voted to block the transfer of Guantanamo Bay detainees to the U.S. and stopped the planned criminal trials. It was the latest of several congressional votes over a two-year period that objected to Obama’s plan…”

WATCHDOG: Why is bowing to public opinion and the expressed desires of Congress a “significant blow?” It is good to again  have a president who listens and, where changes are not deemed very  harmful, is willing to alter approaches.
