LANCASTER NEW ERA

Editorial E-town trying medical amnesty” opines:

Like Penn State, Elizabethtown College has adopted a “medical amnesty policy” that spares disciplinary action against a student who calls 911 or alerts campus security when he or she feels a fellow student is at risk of alcohol poisoning…

Last year, a measure passed by the state Legislature and signed into law by the governor provides immunity from prosecutions for minors for underage drinking and possession of alcohol if they call 911 to help an intoxicated friend in an emergency.

E-town’s medical amnesty policy mirrors state law, which may seem like overkill.”
WATCHDOG:    Two wags of the tail for State legislators, Elizabethtown College and the New Era editors.  Sad to say, these days for many college binge drinking is part of a right-of-passage.  We lament it but we must face it.  As is also the case with drug overdoses, it is imperative that fellow students be encouraged to immediately report danger without fear of penalties for themselves or their alcohol poisoned or drug overdosed fellow student.

In fact, this should apply to entire population.

Kids do stupid things as part of exploration and breaking away.  Given the opportunity, most grow out of it.
