LANCASTER NEW ERA

Editorial “PSU president’s hefty pay hike” opines:

“…the board argues, Erickson’s new salary is more in line with that of other university presidents.  His base salary is at about the 50th percentile for presidents and chancellors of comparable research universities, according to a 2011 survey commissioned by PSU and Pitt.

“Does all this sound familiar?  It should.  It’s essentially the same argument used to increase the salaries of two key officials in the administration of Lancaster Mayor Rick Gray…

“Whether it’s a governing board or government council, State College or Lancaster, the same specious argument is made for those who spend other people’s money:  High-paid leaders get high pay, and taxpayers get hosed.”

WATCHDOG: They echo Karl Marx:  “‘From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs’ needs to be urgently applied internationally in view of the horrendous avoidable mortality in the world.” These ‘card carrying’ editors subvert a basic principle of Capitalism that people should be paid in accordance with supply and demand.

Where is Joe McCarthy when we need him to investigate?

And what about the three – yes three – executives of Public Charity Lancaster General Health being paid well over a million dollars a year? How does a ‘Public Charity’, funded by tax exemptions which means also at tax payer cost, differ from the State University and the City of Lancaster?
