LANCASTER NEW ERA

Editorial “Barring ex-cons from schools” opines:

“For some teachers and other school employees with criminal records, their pasts are coming back to haunt them.

“They were long since punished for their crimes, and had thought they closed dark chapters in their lives.  But a recently revised state law aimed at protecting children is bringing the crimes back to the forefront…

“At least 14 public or private schools or school districts have reported having one or more employees with such arrests or convictions.

“This speaks volumes for the need for the new law.  And the fact that the law is getting push back from some people only tells us that it is working as planned.”

WATCHDOG: What otherwise is a thoughtful and balanced assessment of the situation, ends with a very cheap shot.   We and many others would like to see statistics concerning whether crimes have been committed against school children by well screened ex-convicts before forming an opinion.   To say that “the law is getting push back from some people only tells us that it is working as planned” is an insult to the public.

  1. LNP insults us every day!!!!!!

If Marv Adams and Gil Smart REALLY wanted to do an investigative series on the Convention Center woes; they would have started and finished by detailing the one-sided agreement between PSP and the Convention Center Authority. They would have included how MOST of the hotel financing was with PUBLIC FUNDS to benefit a PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP.

Rather than passing the shortfall onto hoteliers and taxpayers, why not call on PSP (and all proponents) to make up the shortfall and get a NEW AGREEMENT in place, then see how that works for a year or two before increasing any taxes; which should ONLY be done with a voting referundum approval at the next primary.

Maybe our elected county officials could force the issue!!!!!!!
