Article “City clinic gets federal funds” reports:
“The [SouthEast Lancaster] medical and dental clinic at 625 S. Duke St. will receive $3.25 million under grant funding announced by President Barack Obama… renovations to its new location at 333 N. Arch St… Specifically, [Executive Director Jim] Kelly said, the latest grant will allow the clinic to complete renovations to its new location at 333 N. Arch St… The nonprofit organization purchased the building in late summer with a $2.5 million grant from Lancaster General Hospital. Renovation of the 16,000-square-foot space, expected to begin by the end of the month, likely will cost between $1 million and $1.3 million, Kelly said.”
WATCHDOG: This is an excellent use of federal stimulus dollars. A wag of the tail for Lancaster General Hospital, clinic board chairman Tom Smithgall, Kelly, and the others who played important roles in bringing this about. It shows what can be accomplished when Lancastrians work for the public good.
A sad note is that similar funding would likely have been available for the expansion of Lancaser Public Library on Duke Street had its trustees not ditched their renovation plan and millions in funding at the last minute.
