Kerry warns of ‘intimidation’ of Ukraine

FINANCIAL TIMES Moscow had created a climate of “fear and intimidation” in Ukraine, US secretary of state John Kerry said after talks in Paris on Sunday night with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, as he refused to endorse Moscow’s calls for a federal solution for the country…

He added that the Russian suggestion of a federal solution for Ukraine was “up to the Ukrainians” and it was inappropriate for him to have a substantive discussion on the matter without them present…

Russia restated before the talks demands it made two weeks ago as it moved to annex Ukraine’s Black Sea peninsula of Crimea. They included military neutrality for Ukraine, a federal structure for the country, and the upgrading of Russian to be an official state language alongside Ukrainian… (more)
