Kerry says Assad chemical attack ‘undeniable’

FINANCIAL TIMES: John Kerry, the US secretary of state, said Bashar al Assad’s responsibility for the use of chemical weapons was “undeniable”, lifting the likelihood of an imminent punitive military attack against the Syrian regime in response.

Mr Kerry said President Barack Obama would make an “informed decision” about the US response to what he called a “moral obscenity”. “Nothing is more serious. Nothing is receiving more serious scrutiny,” he said, without detailing what the US might do.

Mr Kerry’s statement flatly contradicted that of Vladimir Putin, Russia’s president, who warned western powers on Monday against a strike, insisting that there was no evidence that the Syrian regime had been guilty of a chemical weapons attack… (more)
