PENNLIVE: … [Larry] Davis said he believes Kane was legally safe in releasing the latter memo, because it was not a part of the 2009 investigation. Furthermore, he said, she was not in office and therefore not sworn to secrecy, in 2009.
…As for the 2014 memo, Davis said public officials hand over documents to individual reporters all the time. While it’s fair to debate the political expediency of her choice, he said, it was not an illegal act and was part of her larger goal of transparency.
“It’s very funny to hear a reporter saying there must be something wrong if a document’s being handed to me,” said Davis, who was a key player in the media coverage of President Bill Clinton’s impeachment proceedings and the Jerry Sandusky trial… (more)
EDITOR: Our first impression is that the Philadelphia Inquirer is making a mountain out of molehill. It has been angry with Kane ever since she refrained from prosecuting Democrat politicians because she felt that their investigation had been tainted.
Due to financial troubles and resulting battles between owners, the Inquirer has not been very relevant on the Pennsylvania scene for some years… at least not the way it had been in the past. Perhaps it sees fanning the fires to be a way of restoring some prestige.
