Jobless rate up 2 ticks at 7.6% in PA

Pennsylvania’s unemployment rate rose to 7.6 percent in June, up from 7.4 percent in May, the first increase since the jobless rate peaked last year.

Even though the production-of-goods sector increased employment, the service-providing sectors lost 5,700 jobs in June, resulting in a net loss of 2,600 jobs for the month. Six of the eight service-providing employment sectors lost jobs…

One sign of weakness in the economy was the 418,000 people who filed initial unemployment claims last week. Initial claims for benefits has now topped 400,000 for 15 weeks in a row, according to the U.S. Department of Labor…
