Jay Paterno drops out of lieutenant governor primary race

PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE: Former Penn State assistant football coach Jay Paterno said Friday he is pulling out of the Democratic primary for lieutenant governor.

The son of late Penn State football coach Joe Paterno said he decided to drop out because court challenges to his nominating petitions could “drag out over time” and would be a distraction.

“That would benefit no one so I have decided to step away,” he said in an e-mail sent to supporters. “There are times in life when the pursuit of one’s personal goals can be a distraction to the common good. I believe this is one of those times.” … (more)
