J. P. McCaskey, representing the defense, defeated Lancaster Catholic by a score of 6 – 0 yesterday evening with Magistrate Judge Bruce Roth presiding.
McCaskey coach Kevin Webster observed that “I have to congratulate Lancaster Catholic as they obviously worked hard and the trial was closer than it might appear.”
In a date yet to be determined, McCaskey will travel to York for the regional semi-final. The finals are expected to be held in Harrisburg.
McCaskey Team #1 members are Thelmelis Abreu, Therese Deslippe, Arianna Henderson, Aileen Hickey, Amanda Lam, Candy Thomas, Zoe Turnpaugh and Kate Weaver.
Faculty member Webster has been coaching the McCaskey team for eight years. This is the first time they have won back to back county championships.
Last year, the team won the county, the regionals and then came in second in the statewide finals. In doing so they defeated teams from the most elite schools throughout the Commonwealth, an extraordinary achievement that went largely unrecognized by the local media… which in turn is a reflection on the values and cultural level of the community.
