Is the appointment of Louis Freeh simply window dressing?

The Watchdog leaped for joy (figuratively speaking) when he learned that former FBI director Louis Freeh had been engaged by Penn State to “head sex abuse investigation.” According to Wikipedia, Louis Joseph Freeh (born January 6, 1950) was the 5th Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, serving from September 1993 to June 2001“, the Clinton years.

But it was only upon later reading a longer account that he came across the following caveat in a later Associated Press article:

“Freeh said he spoke with Attorney General Linda Kelly on Sunday night and was determined not to interfere with the ongoing criminal case.  A spokesman for Kelly said she was aware of the Penn State trustee but declined to comment on it.”

What happened within Penn State is only part of the story and, in all fairness, cannot be understood and evaluated without seeing the  local and state context.  What is essential is to learn why Center County law enforcement officials did not take action despite numerous incidents over a fifteen year period and the cause of the apparent murder of county district attorney Ray Gricar.

Do we expect the Republican Attorney General office to seriously investigate the role that Republican Governor Tom Corbett and other members of the department may have played in the cover up?

To not probe the role of the law enforcement community turns the Freeh investigation into a side show, a misdirection.

In short, more of the same.

  1. Penn State has long been know as a “party” school; hopefully, the party is over for anyone associated with the Second Mile cover-up.

It is hard for me to believe that the Second Mile, from the formation, was a catch-all for troubled young men who Sandusky could have his way with. There has to be more and it must lead to and include Governor Corbett, as well as the local police.

Cover ups, pay offs, no questions asked policy fed the fire. Wouldn’t we all want to know what was at the bottom and the top of this sordid, sorry, mess?

May the perpetrators and cooperators all be exposed and sentenced accordingly in a court of law and, in my opinion, Sandusky should not see the light of day.
